Shrimp Creole

The cooler weather has finally reached New Orleans, which means it is also time to enjoy some warm dishes like Shrimp Creole. Why not make Mulate’s Shrimp Creole to get the strength you need for a good day? Don’t forget to go out and enjoy some of the first parades – Krewe of Boo!

What You Need

  • 4 tbsp. butter

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 small bell pepper, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped

  • 1 1/2 cups water

  • 8-oz. can tomato sauce

  • 1/2 tsp. thyme

  • 1/2 tsp. dried sweet basil

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

  • 1 lb. medium shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 2 cups cooked white rice

How It’s Done

Shrimp CreoleIn a medium saucepot, melt the butter and saute the onion, bell pepper, and garlic for about 10 minutes. Stir in water, tomato sauce, and dry seasonings. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add shrimp, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes stirring occasionally. Serve over rice. This recipe serves about four people.
